The LORD detests all the proud of heart. Be sure of this: They will not go unpunished.
Something that Britain’s ruling Conservative Party should bear in mind. Justine Greening has become the latest high-ranking politician, following in the footsteps of the Prime Minister, to call on the Church of England to allow same-sex marriages.
Politicians have no business interfering in the affairs of the House of God; their writ does not run there. It is the symptom of the deepest, evilest pride to insist that it does. This is part of a clear trajectory toward growing state intervention in Church affairs:
That’s the inevitable progression in liberalism: first toleration, within strict limits, followed swiftly by the marginalisation or proscription of the opposition. When the CofE legislated for women bishops, it was all about inclusivity – in fact, as recent appointments have showed, it’s now impossible for a cleric who doesn’t accept women’s ordination to get into the mainstream episcopate.
It will only get worse. More and more those who espouse Scripture faithfully will find themselves targeted by the Church bureaucracy and the state apparatus. We must resist and endure and have confidence in the statement above; the proud will not prosper and the Lord will lay them low.
