So, what have we seen at the General Synod so far?
- It has voted against an a motion which committed to “urge all bishops, clergy and lay people at this time of anxiety and uncertainty to take every opportunity to commend to all the people of a england faith in Jesus Christ, who is King of Kings, the Prince of Peace and the Hope of every nation.”
- Voted against an amendment which asked Synod to publicly affirm a document called ‘the uniqueness of Christ in a multi faith world
- Voted to call for a ban on conversion therapy.
The consequences of the first two measures are quite clearly spelled out in Scripture.
But whoever disowns me before others, I will disown before my Father in heaven.
The Synod has set the seal on its rejection, as a corporate body, as a Church by Jesus in front of God. It is already under the judgement of the Lord. Not only is it breaking asunder but the flames of scandal flicker around its feet, threatening to consume it entirely. It is not the only denomination with this problem though, it has long been a problem for the Catholic Church and continues to be so. Let’s be clear. This is the inevitable consequence of deviation from Scripture, the only protection against the ravages of sin, and allowing sin an all access pass through the front door. More will come as the Church continues to circle the drain and God’s wrath is poured out onto it.
The Church of England is lost to the cause of God. Scripture is not a book, it is not words on a page yet that is how it is treated by the C o E. Only seeing it so can lead a vicar to declare in Church that it is “cold-hearted, unfeeling, rigid and unfinished”. It is the living, breathing inerrant Word of God, it courses with his life and love for us, this is why it is written in the minds and on the hearts of the faithful Church of England clergy and liturgy declares the ‘great mystery of faith’ and of God but it is not a mystery. God is revealed too us in the pages of the books of His Word. He is revealed to us in the life of the living Word, Jesus Christ. The two are inextricably linked. The Written Word and the Living Word both reveal to us what the Church calls a ‘mystery’ and rejection of one is rejection of another. The heretical leadership of the C o E reject one and in doing so, in their actions in the very next breath, reject the other and where the beating heart of light should be at the core of the Church, Scripture, there is an empty void filled with nothing but darkness, a darkness that consumes all light that touches it, which seeps even into the hearts of the faithful and a darkness that will be justly dealt with by God.
It is a rebellious house of harlotry. It can and will only get worse, not better, because its heart is hardened against the Lord. It is a prison house of the faithful. It is time for us, as we enter dark and dangerous times, to heed the warning in Revelations:
Then I heard another voice from heaven say: “‘Come out of her, my people,’ so that you will not share in her sins, so that you will not receive any of her plagues
